Is There A God?
Is there a god?
-Allie
Dear Allie,
The way I’d like to do your reading is to use the first card to symbolize the heart, the second the mind, and the third - the body. Since I have the piece of paper that you wrote your question on, I shuffled it along with the cards to get the right answer for you. The cards that came up are The Hermit, Justice, and the 9 of Wands.
The Hermit is so cool – he is the epitome of cool. The only warmth I see coming from that card is from the star inside the lantern he is holding. At the heart of the matter it seems that the light that may be understood as God comes from within each of us. Without that light, we would be frozen, uncommunicative, unemotional, and cold. It is up to you whether you want to receive that light into yourself so you can share it and spread it around. If you prefer to leave it outside, it won’t matter, it will still be there if you ever do want it. Your light may not be called God, it may be called something else. Whatever you call it, you have a choice to be enlightened.
For the mind aspect of the question we got another major arcana card, Justice. Justice generally means finding a balance between right and wrong (see the scales?). If people didn’t have an idea of God there may not be a fear of consequences to keep people from wrong-doing. I realize that some people believe that their God wants them to do terrible things. However, there has to be some justification as to what we each believe to be right and with no concept of god that becomes extremely difficult. Even if it is wrong to one person, the concept of God gives us an understanding that there is a force greater than ourselves in charge of making sure things end up even. Bad deeds will be punished, good deeds will be rewarded. It’s only fair, right? This is the logical aspect of your question – the part to be understood by your mind.
The body in the 9 of Wands is looking pretty beat-up with the bandage on his head. He looks all set with what life has handed him, and tired of working his butt off (in a dress to make matters worse). Sometimes when things in life get tough, it is hard for us to believe that anyone “up there” is paying attention. So we choose to believe that we are on our own and it is just a matter of existence, we are no different than a snail or a tree. Just organic matter growing and evolving and receiving enough sustenance to survive. You could believe that if you wanted to, it’s really a very personal choice. And when you get tired, it’s understandable, but I bet you see light in your best friend’s eyes that shows you how much more we humans are than just a body.
Personally, I know that people have souls, and I believe those souls connect them to their higher power. But that’s me. Everyone has to find their own god in their own body and figure out what it means to them. Keep the faith, Allie.
