Words - not hard to come by
DEAR MARIBETH,
I feel that to be a writer is my calling. Is it true?
Many thanks.
Maya
DEAR MAYA,
I’ve asked the cards your question and what came up is the Moon, the Four of Wands and the 10 of Cups. It seems that you have answered your own question - you know you are meant to be a writer.
What I am picking up from the cards is that you need to be more dramatic in your writing. You need to grab hold of the readers’ emotions and entwine them in the weaving of your words. There are some basic writing skills that you need to use in your writing, with a focus on composition. You want all of the separate pieces to join together to create a magnificent, and perhaps unexpected, whole for the reader. I see deception in the Moon, commitment in the Four of Wands and success and happiness in the 10 of Cups. These are some basic building blocks for any good story and need to fit together to create believable fiction.
You also need a good editor, or someone who can advise you how it all sounds, and how it all fits together. One who can bring to your attention the sections that may need more detail or passion behind the words. You want your readers to feel like they understand the characters and feel sadness when there is trouble, glory where there is success and serenity where things appear calm. Then you can surprise them with a turn of events that makes the story feel like the emotional roller coaster ride we all know as life.
These are three powerful cards that came up for you, and they make me feel that you have a flair for the dramatic. The cards are taking me through the ups and downs of your storytelling and can also be applied to you.
The Moon implies that you may be at your best writing at night. It is important to take that into consideration and utilize your talents in the way that they work for you. We can’t always conform to common protocol, especially when we are talking about artistic expression. Respect your weirdness, Maya.
The Four of Wands shows me your need for approval and someone (like an editor) who will support you in this endeavor. This means telling you like it is, which could be positive or negative feedback, depending on the circumstances. It should be someone you are comfortable with, and who knows what you need when you need it. Learning to accept criticism is a huge step toward acquiring your own success.
Speaking of success, there is the 10 of Cups. Although writing is an individual effort, you are a person who needs to be around others. You are not the type to go sit on a mountaintop to write your book. I see you being happier with a lot going on around you. You may even gather ideas from your real life experiences to incorporate into your book(s).
FYI, Mercury is always looking for good writers to contribute articles, so don’t be shy! Good luck!!
