Snow Forecast

Dear Maribeth,

Are we going to get a lot of snow this year? We got so much last year, I am not looking forward to another year like that. What do the cards say?

Still Tired from Shovelling Last Year!

Dear Still Tired,

Do I LOOK like the Farmer’s Almanac?? Just kidding. Seems like everyone wants to know this, so I’ll give it a shot. I pulled the Queen of Cups, the 6 of Swords and the Ace of Swords. The aces often symbolize the beginning of a new season. So folks, it’s true, like it or not, another season is upon us.
In a reading, the aces can help us to determine the timing of a situation as well as knowing a person is beginning a new phase in their life (like a new job or relationship). There are many theories written about which suit symbolizes which season, but I agree with the concept that each tarot reader has to determine what suit symbolizes what season for them. I believe it is a very individual practice. For me, today, the Ace of Swords is screaming Winter.

But let’s start at the beginning. If you look at the water in the Queen of Cups, you’ll notice it swirling around very close to her feet. The next card shows the guy in the boat steering away from the swirly water to the white flat stuff. Out in the distance it looks more liquid again, and it’s all very white out there. The last card is the Ace. If you look at the bottom of the ace of swords, it kind of looks like snow, but it doesn’t look overwhelming or deep. From looking at the water and whiteness on all three of these cards it looks to me like we will have many snow storms, but not too much snow all at once.

I see in this reading that just when all the snow melts down, we get more. The crown on the Ace card seems to bring us back around to the Queen with the melted snow around her feet, and the whole process seems to start over again.

I predict we will all need a good pair of waterproof boots to keep our feet dry and warm because there will be a lot of puddles to avoid. Take care in the mornings when the melted snow becomes frozen ice, as it looks in the Ace of Swords. This winter does feel like a long one to me, a lot due to the fact that many of us are ready for spring already! But the actual snow – we can handle it this year. Keep that shovel handy and keep up with it as it comes down and you’ll be ahead of the game!
