Soul or Sole Encounter?
Dear Maribeth,
I met a man a number of years ago. We had circles of friends that seemed to overlap on a regular basis so I knew who he was but only once did we ever actually meet and talk. I never saw him again after that one encounter but it always seemed like there should have been more. I thought for certain that one day eventually our paths would cross again but they didn’t. As it happens, life has progressed in seemingly opposite directions for us both but I often still, at random, think about him. Is it just me and my thoughts of him are some manifestation of “what never was”, a kind of curious daydream, or is there some other reason why my mind comes back to him. Is it possible that he thinks of me too?
— wondering why
Dear Wondering Why,
Anything is possible! Let’s see what cards you get. Up came the Page of Wands, the King of Pentacles and The High Priestess. Each is a picture of a person…very interesting.
The Page of Wands shows a young person who looks as though he is seeing how he measures up to the big stick in his hand. It appears that you met this man at a time in your life when you were developing a particular aspect of your personality. You were trying to figure out who you wanted to become. This is a part of our natural growth at any point in our life. We can always improve.
The King of Pentacles shows him: “a cool dude in a loose mood”. He has the ability to convey his thoughts in a confident manner. He was an example to help you establish a better idea of the world. He may have achieved something that you wished you could or had some qualities that you admired. You may have felt like he “raised the bar” for your expectations of yourself or your relationships.
The High Priestess is a major arcana card and tells us to tune in to our intuition. Our gut feelings are never wrong, and when this card comes up like this, it means your instincts are right on. Your soul may have had a relationship with his soul in a former life, and perhaps it was unfinished. This would lead you to feelings of needing more from him in this life. You can’t ignore your feelings, whether or not they make logical sense.
The two of you are definitely connected. It was a defining moment for who you are. Sometimes people come into our lives to teach us something, but they don’t stay. Try to figure out what your life might be like right now if you had never met him. Would it be different in some way? Are you not satisfied with something in your life now that you feel would be okay if he was there? Perhaps there is a void that you are trying to fill with a memory because you don’t want to face making a change. It looks like he brought you a gift, and you need to figure out what you learned about yourself from that experience.
