Fat Chance!
Dear Maribeth,
Now that I am graduating from college, will I finally lose the Freshman 15??
From,
Fat Fannie
Dear Fat Fannie,
Ahhh, the freshman 15, the dreaded LBs. I’ve pulled some cards: the 5 of Pentacles, the Hermit and the 3 of Cups. They make it pretty clear that no matter what the reason for added pounds, the solution always seems to be the same: the dreaded exercise, and of course, diet.
First we have the 5 of Pentacles, a card about taking care of yourself. These forlorn folks depicted here look like they could use a sandwich. This card shows that a certain lifestyle that has been experienced cannot continue. It gives an overall sense of depression and dissatisfaction. These are the catalysts for change. Once you are truly unhappy with your figure, you will summon the strength to make the changes to improve it.
The Hermit is next up. The Hermit’s usual meaning is that it is a time to look inward. This is probably true in the sense of creating the future you want. I would also like to take a more literal meaning of the card in reference to your question. The general meaning of the card is stillness. Perhaps there has been too much stillness in your body as far as a lack of mobility. All that studying and sitting in class doesn’t bring about much physical activity, right? Now that you can finally lift your head out from the books, you may want to get out and ride your bike, swim in the ocean, and increase your heart rate. You’ve strengthened your mind, how about paying some attention to strengthening your body now that you are done with school.
The 3 of Cups shows 3 woman lifting their glasses in good cheer. This is about your diet and what you choose to ingest. I don’t know if keg beer is even on the Weight Watcher’s point list. College and parties go hand-in-hand and when you are with friends it is so easy to overdo it. Once the graduation parties are over, you will need to become more conscious of what you eat and drink. You really are limited in your food options when in school, ordering a pizza or other fast food is just what you have to do. But that is all changing now.
As you step into the next realm of your life, a lot will be changing. You have the chance to establish all new habits for yourself. Be conscious of your activity levels, exercise and your food choices. You need to make deliberate decisions about what you choose to eat, and realize that you are creating habits that are easy to get used to. You have a clean slate and once you establish a routine that you are proud of, you will want to stick to it. The results will show themselves, and then you will be comfortable showing more of yourself. Good luck!!
