Casino or No Casino?
Dear Maribeth,
Any insight from the cards about how the vote for a casino in West Warwick will turn out? Will it be a reality?

Anticipating the Worst
Dear ATW,
This is obviously a hot topic, and with good reason — it’s a big deal when people are talking about changing the state Constitution. Before I lay out the cards, I want to mention that in a tarot reading if there are no cards showing up from the suit of Pentacles, this usually means that nothing is going to happen in our real world. The suit of Pentacles represents tangible, real things in our dimension. Other suits represent thoughts, actions and emotions — nothing in our touchable, physical world. With that said, let’s see what comes up!
We got the 5 of Cups, the 9 of Cups and the 10 of Wands. No Pentacles. With the 9 of Cups in the center, it looks as though the voters are going to say no to Question 1.
The 5 of Cups shows a person dressed in a dark cape with his head down, looking at 3 spilled cups. Right behind him are 2 upright cups. I interpret this as the people of Rhode Island feel that there is not enough good (represented by the two upright cups) to come out of a casino here, as there is bad (shown by the three overturned cups). People have more information about the negative impact of the casino and aren’t quite sure they are comfortable with the promised positive impacts. I see the bridge over the water with the building on the other side and I hear: If people want to gamble, they can cross the state line over to Connecticut. The benefit to Rhode Islanders and West Warwick residents doesn’t seem to be inspiring to enough people to want to vote yes.
The 9 of Cups is known as the “Wish Card” and when the card is face up, it means a wish will be coming true. This vote will be granting the wish of the majority of the state and West Warwick residents. The people will get what they want. It seems to be a fair election process without any questionable activity associated with it. If that genie-looking guy on the card had a feather in his cap, a headband or even some moccasins, I would associate that with the Indians getting their wish, but I’m not getting an Indian vibe from this dude. He has more of an authority figure posture about him.
The guy in the 10 of Wands looks like he is wearing moccasins, though. And he looks very determined to keep pushing toward that large building in the background. I feel the Indians are not going to give up, and if this West Warwick location doesn’t work they are going to keep trying until they find a spot in Rhode Island that will be approved. They have big ideas and big dreams, and are not going to give up that easily. This is the beginning of a long process for them, but one they feel is well worth their strongest efforts.
