Where the Wild Things Are

Dear Maribeth,

What do you see for the future of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? Can they make it work together?

Signed,

A Fan

Dear Fan,

We got 3 major arcana cards – the Sun, The Moon and Strength. These are all very powerful cards. When both the Sun and the Moon come up in a reading, I get the sensation of the days coming and going. And, in just 3 cards we have a horse, a wolf, a dog, a lobster and a lion: the makings of a zoo. Are they neighbors with Michael Jackson? In any case, it looks like they are in for some wildlife!

Let’s look over that big stone wall pictured on the Sun card. It sure looks like their kid has got it made. The Sun represents much joy and a time of celebration. They really love that child and will provide for all of the baby’s needs. This new member of their family makes for good glue to hold their relationship in place. The Sun is about light and awareness of the conscious decisions we make. They all sure are in the limelight. That stone wall is necessary for them to feel safe and secure from the public and paparazzi.

The Moon shows the shadow or unconscious aspects of ourselves and our relationships. It is the counterpart to the sun so it provides a steadying balance. This yin and yang or tension of opposites is also displayed by the presence of the dog and the wolf. They represent our civilized and animal natures, respectively. The lobster supplies an added dimension. He is rising up from the water wearing a protective shell and wielding his claws to shield him from pain. It is not easy for superstars to shed their layers of protection and be open to sharing themselves. Personal information can actually be sold for a price. This is why it is better for two stars to be together. They both have as much to lose if shared information were to leak out. There is a constant state of self-protection and image to display. The question is, when is the guard let down? Ever?

The Strength card supports the idea that there is a need for control of the primitive nature. Tom is probably a handful. With his financial status being dependent on his ability to portray drama, the Strength card gives me the feeling he practices his dramatizing at home. Not just on Oprah’s couch. Although jumping on the furniture on national television is a fine example of primitive behavior in humans, Katie’s gentle touch has him purring at home for now.

Both The Moon and Strength have blue mountains in the background. They can represent personal challenges yet to accomplish together. The path to those mountains is clear in the Moon, yet in Strength, the road is less traveled. The mountains get steeper as we move along in the reading. The further into this relationship TomKat gets, the less experience they will have to draw on, and the more they will be counting on their basic instincts and true nature. I wish them both the patience and tolerance they will need as those challenges become tougher to conquer.
