Uneasy Rider
Dear Maribeth,
I know someone who bought one of the fastest motorcycles you can get brand new for the price of $50.00 from the deceased rider’s mother. She couldn’t look at the bike any more. He hit a tree on the bike drunk driving. The bike has slight damage that is easy to fix. Every time I look at the bike I feel it’s bad karma, but when I try to explain it, he says it was just too good of a deal to pass up. Is it bad karma?
Signed,
Lump in my throat
Dear Lump,
I find the whole scenario terribly uncomfortable, but let’s see what cards come up. Buying a house where a murder occurred can also leave a weird vibe like this.
All pentacles: the 4, the 5 and the 6 in order. Quite amazing out of 78 well shuffled cards. This message is coming through loud and clear: there are some things money can’t buy. This heartbroken mother can tell you exactly what those things are.
The 4 of Pentacles shows us that the bottom line in this situation is that the person buying the bike is trying to save a buck. See how he’s clutching on to his pentacle, that symbolizes money, and he is holding on tight. His interests lie more in the bargain price than any other factor of the bike’s history. Some people are like that, very superficial and matter of fact. Apparently the money he is saving is most important to his decision.
I think it’s important to note that all life experiences leave energetic imprints in their surroundings. Did you ever walk into a room where people had just been arguing and you can sense the tension there even if the people were gone? And yet others will walk into the room oblivious to anything. You are obviously a person who is conscious of energy and sensitive to people’s feelings.
The 5 of Pentacles reminds us that we all will experience sadness and loss in our lives at one time. It is important to be compassionate for those people who are suffering. Most of us are inclined to reach out and do what we can to lift people’s spirits when they are feeling life’s burdens. Perhaps buying the bike was helpful to these people because now they don’t have to look at it anymore. It’s not for us to guess. As implied by the stained glass window in the card, God is watching and taking care of things in his own way. The fact that these 3 cards came out in exact order is a sign that there is perfect order in all things, even though we just don’t understand it at times.
The 6 of Pentacles is known as the karma card. The scale he holds in his left hand shows the balance that we must keep. What goes around comes around, what we give will come back to us. The more we do for others, the more people will be willing to help us. If we behave selfishly, well, others may be less apt to help us when we need it.
To stay karmically balanced, we cannot take advantage of other people’s misfortunes. It will not benefit anyone. This doesn’t mean that the bike carries danger with it, but because it was gotten under such tragic circumstances, the money saved by not paying a fair price isn’t worth anything. He got a bike, that’s all he got. The pride that comes from earning something fair and square is priceless. The new rider’s respect for the original rider is also very important. He could donate the rest of the value of the bike to a charity in the rider’s honor, just so he is not benefiting by something so disastrous.
My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends.
