War-ried

Dear Maribeth,

When I was in high school I decided to take pride in my country and get some help with tuition by joining the service. Obviously, I never expected the horror of 911 and the resulting war on terrorism. I have since done my time: I chewed the dirt and waved the flag.
Now I am back and very uncertain of the future. I have a hard time coping with life here after seeing what I have seen and having had to do what had to be done. How can I make my life complete without knowing what tomorrow will bring?

One of the Proud, The Few

Dear Proud Few,

Thank You.

Your question pulled up three great cards: Strength, the Queen of Pentacles and the 6 of Wands. This is a nice balanced “hand” you have been dealt. There is one major arcana card (Strength), one of the suit of reality (pentacles) and one of enterprise (wands). This shows me that you are a blessed person with a lot to offer the world.

What you signed up for, and what you have done, have shown awe-inspiring Strength. I’m sure you discovered inner strength that you didn’t even know you had before your experience overseas. The saying goes, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” and you lived through it. Life will provide many challenges as we go through it, and you can rest assured that you will be able to handle whatever your future brings. You will continue to be dealt different hands, and knowing when to fold and when to stay in is all part of the game.

The Queen of Pentacles in the center is a very grounding card. Here is a woman who is secure in her world. You have invested time and effort in yourself and for your future while you are young. This is a very worthwhile investment and will benefit you with every year that passes. For now, a consistent work schedule and lifestyle will provide added support both financially and emotionally. Try to control those things in your life that you can and choose activities that bring you a sense of peace and stability. As time goes by, a healthy routine that brings you pleasure will replace your uncertainty.

The 6 of Wands is known as the “hero card”. Here he comes on his white horse wearing a wreath-crown and carrying a victory wreath. He has saved the day. This is you. You have taken pride in your country, and now it is time my friend, to take pride in yourself. By focusing on your accomplishments, the strength you have gained, and the honor that you deserve, then, your life will progress in the way you hope. Your definition of your “complete” life is up to you.

Perhaps the incompleteness is a feeling that something is missing, or you fear being deployed again. These are understandable concerns based on your experiences. These cards show you achieving success in many ways. The only way your fears can be put to rest is when you stop giving them power. Focus instead on your brave and chivalrous behavior and know you will play the hand you are dealt to the best of your ability. You have learned to be strong and protective, use it to your own advantage.
