What will you do with the key?
Dear Maribeth,
Do good luck charms really work? Are bad omens real? Why is it that sometimes such tragic experiences can happen to the kindest souls and others go through life seeming so protected?
Bemused Bob
Your cards are showing me the three factors that influence chance. The 8 of Wands is about the decisions we make, the Hierophant is about gaining knowledge and Judgement reminds us that there is a Higher Power looking over things.
All of us have examples of close calls where things could have gone terribly wrong but they didn’t. We all wonder if luck was on our side. We all also, sadly, have tales of loved ones who weren’t so lucky. Whether it be health, vehicle accidents, mother nature, or other unjust causes , we probably take more risks on a daily basis than we ever realize. There are even annual Darwin awards for people who accidentally died in freak accidents.
The 8 of Wands reminds us that we do have some manner of control. The decisions we make do affect our destiny. Imagine the thought processes of those folks who decided at the last minute not to get on one of the planes that were hijacked on September 11th. “Phew” doesn’t cut it. Or the “If only I had …fill in the blank…then this wouldn’t have happened.” Although we often can’t tell in advance which is the obvious right decision to make, whatever decisions we do make have consequences that we endure. Our gut instinct is there to lead us to the right choice, so the best we can do is stick with that. Make decisions that feel right.
Also use your brains to make smart decisions. The Hierophant shows us two people looking to another for guidance. Sometimes you don’t have enough information. By asking the right questions, and getting the information you need, it will help you to steer clear of unfortunate circumstances. The keys at the feet of the Hierophant remind me of charms. They are right in the center of your reading. How well they work is a matter of very personal opinion. There appears to be one key being offered to each of the gentleman looking up at the Hierophant. If they wish to take it and use it, it will work, if not, how can it? Like the lottery – you have to play to win. Objects store energy within them kind of like fingerprints. If an object makes you smile when you hold it, the positive energy you are creating will enhance your intuition and you may be guided to avoid trouble. Hence, it will bring you good luck.
As we move on to Judgement, we approach the topic of karma. Karma is understood basically as ‘What goes around, comes around’. We will get our just desserts. This may be difficult to see at times, but we need to have faith that there is someone somewhere keeping track of the score. At some point, we must throw our hands up in the air and know that we have taken care of as much as we can and the rest we leave up to the forces beyond our control. This is where we have to believe the outcome will be okay. Otherwise we spend our good days worrying about potential bad days. Never a good thing. As for bad omens, I don’t understand how they are helpful. I personally tend to ignore them unless they seem to be guiding posts if we feel we are veering off course.
You ask some big questions. I don’t know why things happen or don’t happen. I am especially confused when people take innocent people’s lives in a random way. I hope the cards helped you here by identifying how much control you do have within your own sphere of influence.
