A Career In The Cards
Dear Maribeth,
How does someone find out more about Tarot and making money from it as a job? My son is very interested in this and I was curious about it as well.
Thanks for any info,
GG
Dear GG,
It is a fascinating way to spend time, I must say! I’m curious to see what cards come up for your question. Did you pull some cards for your question? One way to really expand your understanding of how the cards communicate with you is to use them for yourself as often as possible. A great habit to start is to pull one card each morning for your day. Look at it for a while and write down what you think it means for that day. Then, at the end of the day, look at it again and write your new thoughts. You will then understand each card in real-world way and how they work for you. This will help in your interpretations.
The cards for your reading are the Hierophant, the 9 of Wands and the 3 of Pentacles. The motto of the last card is “Congratulations for a Job Well Done” so the chances of success are good for you! The first two cards show what you need to do to get there, let’s look at those first.
The Hierophant reminds you that you will always be learning. In order to be successful, you want to continue to fill your mind with knowledge. Read books, participate in on-line chats, attend classes (the Tarot School in NYC is my favorite!), and meditate on the cards as often as possible.
The 9 of Wands shows the importance of dedication to your craft. Although reading cards is not difficult physical labor, I can tell you from experience, it can drain your energy and leave you feeling exhausted. You must learn to protect yourself from the energy that is moving through you and make sure it keeps moving. Like any self-employment in order to make money you must work when you can because you don’t get paid sick days or holidays!
The 3 of Pentacles indicates the concept of an energy exchange. When you provide the service of a tarot reading, you are giving your time and attention to help someone along their spiritual path. In the spirit world, there is no time or money so making that work here on earth can be a challenge. As long as you have the genuine intention to act as a messenger between the cards and the person receiving the reading, you have the right to determine the amount of money that is fair for that exchange. You may also choose to trade products or services in exchange for a reading. Finding the people who want your honest feedback, who respect your ability and who are ready to hear what you have to say is challenge. Your reputation is key also. People who enjoy readings from you will tell their friends who will tell their friends, etc. Word of mouth is the best way to promote your business, and that requires individual attention to each and every session.
Think of it as the ‘hair dresser for the soul’, the better you are at your craft and the more people like your service, the more you’re likely to succeed! Tarot On!
