Can Obama Cross That Line?
Dear Readers,
We are continuing our peek at some of the potential 2008 presidential candidates. This week we’re going to ask about Senator Barack Obama from Illinois. What are his challenges in the coming months? What are his strengths against his competition? What does he need to pay attention to? I’ve asked one question of each card as I laid out this reading. Let’s see what they can tell us.
The 4 of Wands came up to address Obama’s challenges. This card refers to partnerships that bring about success. It also symbolizes a party – could that be the democratic party? Who will his running mate be? This decision will have a large effect on the success of his campaign. The persistent chatter suggesting that Hillary and Barack team up together is not being taken seriously, and somehow appears to leave a more obvious vacancy. Who, then, will it be? It is important that he think long and hard about who is most appropriate for that role.
The arms up and garland above these figures implies a great victory. Yet this card is one the “stage cards”. You may notice that there is a definite line on the ground between the forefront of the card and the celebration that is taking place in the back. With everything happening on the other side of the line, it looks like a stage. He must travel beyond those wands and cross that line in order to participate in that success. The castle in the background symbolizes security. He is not close enough yet to find the door and therefore he should be wary of any premature jubilation. He may see it, smell it and maybe even taste it, but until he formally wins the nomination, he must not get too cocky. He’s not there yet.
His strengths against his competition brought up the Knight of Pentacles. Sitting upon the black horse, he has a similar advantage that Hillary has: The novelty of breaking ground in our history books (notice the freshly plowed field), and the potential support of a specific community. The Knight of Pentacles is a very reliable and grounded character. He has money in his hand and doesn’t lose his cool. His strength in a nutshell? Keeping an even pace. Slow and steady wins the race.
The 5 of Pentacles tells us where his focus needs to be and the answer is… to help Americans in unfortunate circumstances. To do what it takes to restore their faith. Whether it be organizing the disheveled health care system, concluding the war, addressing homelessness or any other detrimental dilemma, each person’s suffering matters. Creating smart systems to support people’s success can help to instill pride in the country and will reflect well on the chosen leader.
All in all, with two pentacles cards and the 4 of Wands, things look very solid for Senator Obama. The number four represents stability, as do the Pentacles. I’m getting a good vibe from his reading. There is a general sense of well-being and serious serenity about these cards; they seem to reflect his style.
