Owe, Owe, Owe, Merry Christmas!
Dear Maribeth,
My boyfriend and I are having some financial difficulties right now. We both know they are temporary. My boyfriend wants to take out a loan for $1000 to buy Christmas presents. I don’t agree with this, because I think our friends and family will understand that we can’t afford a lot this year. He says he’ll feel bad if he can’t give them what he wants to and knows he’ll be able to pay the loan back in 6 months. Is this a good idea?
Strapped Santa
Dear S.S.,
Sounds like your boyfriend is a generous soul. I’m glad he has you to give him some practical advice. I’m going to zip my lip and just see what your cards say.
You got the Queen of Cups, the Ace of Pentacles and The Magician. The pentacles symbolize money and it looks like the pentacle is between you, as the Queen of Cups, and him, as the Magician.
The Queen of Cups is gazing lovingly at her golden chalice, admiring her possession. It seems you are comfortable in your surroundings and have what you need to be happy. The Queen of Cups is also typically a creative lady, one who can make beautiful gifts to share with your loved ones. The way her legs are crossed with her foot dangling above the stones on the shore implies that you may not be one to put your foot down. Rather, as the water surrounding her throne implies, you are more apt to go with the flow. You are in tune with your feelings, and understand that other people’s feelings are important too.
The Ace of Pentacles signifies the opportunity for money. Coming out of the cloud, this loan is an easy way to gather funds. Notice the hand is pointed toward him, and you have your back to it. The lilies and archway of flowers indicates this card can also indicate marriage. If you are thinking about marrying this boy, will you still be able to separate your financial differences of opinion as easily as you can now? This is an important thing to consider. It is wonderful that he is so generous, but when his and your money becomes your combined money, it will have to be a mutual decision on how to spend it. These issues can get in the way of a relationship, even a strong one built on love and respect.
He is the Magician, and with this card I feel confident that he will be able to pay the loan back if he chooses to take it out. He also has wonderful artistic talent too and could make presents that may be even more appreciated. In any case, be sure if he takes the loan, it is in his name only and he is responsible for paying it back. It could be just the lesson he needs to learn to become more financially accountable, and, more marriage material for you! Maybe there is a sparkling surprise hidden in that golden chalice for you this year, her ring finger looks awfully bare!! Happy holidays!
